Wavian Fuel Cans are E10 compatible

Did you know that the standard petrol grade in the UK is changing? From the Summer of 2021, the new fuel will be called E10.

The good news is that 95% of all petrol powered vehicles on the road can use the new E10 petrol without any problems, in fact any car built in the last ten years will be ok. Incidentally there will be no change to diesel fuel.

The extra good news is that all of our Wavian steel fuel cans and all of our ‘Site’ fuel cans are 100% compatible with the new fuel standard and you can be safe in the knowledge that you can use your can to store E10 fuel.

For road users with older cars, don’t worry you should still be able to find E5 fuel by purchasing ‘super’ grade (97+ octane) petrol. This will still be available to purchase from most filling stations

About E10 petrol

E10 petrol contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, which will help to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with petrol vehicles and tackle climate change. Petrol in the UK currently contains up to 5% renewable ethanol (known as E5).

E10 petrol is already widely used around the world, including across Europe, the US and Australia. It has also been the reference fuel against which new cars are tested for emissions and performance since 2016.

The introduction of E10 petrol at UK forecourts could cut transport CO2 emissions by 750,000 tonnes a year – the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road, or all the cars in North Yorkshire.

It is possible you may see a small reduction in MPG (thought to be around 1%, but in normal driving this will be difficult to notice).
