Stainless Steel Fuel Cans

Sometimes we get calls from customers who want to use our fuel cans for other purposes, ie rather that storing fuel or diesel we get customers who want to store anything from olive oil to wine to water inside our top quality Wavian Fuel Cans.

Don’t use Wavian Fuel Cans for water or other liquids

The important thing to remember about fuel cans is that they are designed for the storage of fuel only and a special paint coating on the inside of the Jerry can can actually break down if the cans is used for other purposes, eg for water. If a can is used only for water you may find that when emptying the can the water will have a brownish tinge. Under no circumstances should anyone drink water that has been stored in a fuel can.

We have had a customer who filled up 2 X 20 litre fuel cans with wine in Italy and drank the wine on their return to the UK and they suffered no ill health (apart from a hangover) as a result. However, we would like to make it very clear that our Wavian Fuel Cans are definitely designed for this purpose and we do not recommend it in any way.

Plastic or Stainless Steel

If you are look for a heavy duty container that will be suitable for the safe storage of other liquids such as previously mentioned there are two main ways to go. Plastic or Stainless Steel. We’ll look at some of the plastic option in a future post (such as this excellent hunersdorff container) but for now we’re going to take a quick look at some of the high quality stainless steel cans that can (when washed out properly) be used to store water.

Many of our customers use these stainless steel fuel cans in laboratories, or for catering vans or for use on yachts when a supply of fresh water is vital and apart from anything else these stainless steel fuel cans look fantastic too.
