I have received my jerry can and it has a residue inside which smells of fuel?
Our cans are rinsed out with a cleaning fluid after they are manufactured which does have a fuel-like scent to it. We can confirm that this is normal and does no harm to the can or the fuel that is then put inside.
Are the Wavian/Site steel fuel cans suitable for water?
No. The coloured steel cans are lined with a rezinol lining inside and are suitable for fuel only, not water.
What is the difference between a Wavian Steel can & a Site Can?
Our Wavian branded cans are top quality fuel cans. They are made to the highest standards to last a lifetime. The Site Cans are a more affordable solution to storing fuel & we wanted to give our customers the option of having a lower-price choice of steel can. The Wavian quality may not be matched, but they are a decent can for fuel storage.

Suitable for the storage of petrol and diesel. Not suitable for water storage. 20 Litres = approx 4.39 Gallons.

•Manufactured from 0.8mm - Cold Rolled Steel (DC04EN 10130)
•Painted epoxy polyester powder coated rust proof exterior.
•Internally coated with the highest quality “fuel resistant” REZOL Enamel to prevent rusting and flaking.
•Dual Pan construction and seem welded for extra strength.
•The unique wide channel breather enables ‘glug’ and splash free pouring.
•Our 20 Litre Can discharges all of its fuel in less than 25 seconds.
•Fuel resistant rubber seal in cap.
•Leak proof Bayonet closure with stainless steel locking pin in cap.
•Cap designed to hold open when discharging the fuel.
•Strengthened hinge on cap to prevent accidental bending when closing.
•Standard Bayonet caps and New Screw top magnetic caps.
Tested and certified to comply with the following Worldwide standards.

Physical Tests carried out include.
ADR Regulated Internal pressure (Hydraulic) test.
The can is fully filled and the pressure inside the can increased to 2.5 Bar and monitored for 5 minutes with no air leaks.
ADR Regulated Leak proofness test (Leak proof) test.
The Can is fully submerged in a tank of water and the pressure inside increased to 0.3 Bar and monitored for 5 minutes with no leaks.
Drop tested from a height of 1.8 meters.
Handles are also drop tested from 0.8 metres.

Not my first Wavian can so the quality is no surprise, this one is as good as ever. The one thing that prevented a 5* review was packaging. The box was dropped off before I had chance to get to the door so I was dismayed to find the box in tatters and expected the worst. Fortunately and amazingly, all items in the shipment were fine, which I couldn’t believe as the box was ripped to hell, to the extent that the contents were on full view. A plastic can which was also included was a bit scuffed up but not enough to go to the hassle of having replaced. So maybe packaging needs to be more substantial in future.

A pair of well-made 20L Jerrys at a modest premium to the abundant knock-offs on the market, well-packed and delivered the next day in a pandemic. What’s not to like?
Well, Wavian could do us all a favour by not hiding their light under bushel and also make it clear e.g. what the UK regulations are for domestic, unlicensed fuel storage, as well as where exactly the Wavian can comes from.
IF this is the benchmark, bona fide, original pattern, eponymous ‘Jerry’ can, whose German manufacture was so much the envy of allied troops and moved to Latvia in WWII, where it has remained, that’s surely worth making more song and dance about (as the more costly Wavian US site does more effectively).
In fairness though, I do recommend watching the Wavian UK promotional video. All those easily overlooked little touches: seams, metal gauge, latches, NATO number, breather design, coatings, fire integrity and drop resistance should concentrate the mind of anybody contemplating any other can to carry enough potentially explosive propellant to shift a couple of tons of metal from London to Bristol.
And, note to other newbies: do not contemplate putting water in this petrol Jerry – the internal fuel-resistant coating is water soluble.

Really sturdy and heavy duty with good welds and a lovely glossy paint finish. Pretty sure this will last beyond my lifetime. Well worth spending a little extra to get the Wavian jerry can rather than the cheap flimsy versions on Amazon / eBay. Also like the fact that it is made in the EU rather than imported from China.

Looks great, solid & sturdy. Time will tell on it’s longevity but from what I can see I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. Had the optional fuel spout as well. I hadn’t realised that it comes with a clip that screws into the can so you don’t lose it. My only criticism would be the fiddly nature of screwing the bracket to the can… but that could just be me and my big fingers!
